As per the latest reports, EPFO has nearly 8.5 lakh crore (8,50,000,00,00,000) in the fund and due to pressure in falling rates, EPFO struggles to keep the rates at 8% or 8.5% as EPFO till now has only invested in Government Bonds and in Debt Markets.
But with the decision from Central Government, it has allowed EPFO to invest 15% of it’s corpus fund in Stock Markets to make good returns good so that interest outgo can be compensated with returns form stock market
Eventhough EPFO can invest 15% in stockmarket, it invests only 5% in stock market as there has been opposition from lot of labour bodies and unions as stock market constitutes an risky investment
