Accutane during Pregnancy

Accutane should not be taken during Pregnancy and it is know to cause severe side effects to the unborn baby. It might cause malformations or birth defects for the unborn baby. If you are pregnant, Accutane must be discontinued immediately!

FDA says “Accutane should not be also used even if you are trying to get pregnant”. The reason is Accutane may cause severe birth defects even if it’s taken for short duration. So it would be better to avoid if you are trying to get pregnant also.

These are the common birth defects that have been documented in the babies due to intake of Accutane by the pregnant mother: Abnormalities in Face, eyes, ears, skull, central nervous system, cardiovascular system, thymus and thyroid glands.

Babies might also have an IQ of less than 85. There is also an increased risk of spontaneous abortions or premature births due to intake of Accutane. Babies might also have external abnormalities like skull abnormality, anotia, micropinna, absence of external auditory canals, facial dysmorphia, cleft palate and eye abnormalities.

There are also internal abnormalities like cerebral abnormalities, cerebellar malformation,
hydrocephalus, microcephaly, cranial nerve deficit, cardiovascular
abnormalities, thymus gland abnormality and parathyroid hormone deficiency.
